While Llanelwedd has hosted the Royal Welsh Show since 1963, the event itself dates back to 1904, when the Welsh National Agricultural Society (as it was originally known) held its first gathering in Aberystwyth. Back then, there were just 400 livestock entries. Fast-forward to today, and the figures are staggering: over 8,000 livestock entries and 200,000 attendees flood the showground every year.

Before settling in Builth Wells, the show travelled from town to town — 37 different locations, to be exact — alternating between North and South Wales. The move to Llanelwedd offered a central, scenic, and accessible location, making it easier for farmers and families from all corners of Wales to gather.
